Finding top dead center (TDC) is a mandatory part of some repair procedures on this vehicle.

  1. Disconnect the fuel pump relay and ignition coil pack to prevent accidental starting
  2. Remove spark plugs and install conmpression gauge in the number 1 cylinder spark plug hole
  3. Turn the crankshaft clockwise (when looking at the engine from the front of the car) with a socket (a remote starter switch or another person tapping the starter over with the ignition, may also be used to save time by getting the engine close to TDC)
  4. Once a reading starts to show on the compression gauge, turn engine over slowly until you can line up the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the crankshaft position sensor (This engine has marks at 0° and 10° before TDC (BTDC) so be sure to line up the 0° marks)
