I had my first car by age 14 and went to work for a mechanic at 15 and fell even more in love with, not only cars, but the entire car world. Since then I have spent way too much time on the internet which eventually landed me a job at a web design company.

My name is Mark Wilson, and I live in BC, Canada. I have loved cars for as long as I can remember. I had my first car (1977 Chevy Malibu) by age 14, went to work for a mechanic at 15 and fell even more in love with, not only cars, but the entire car world. Since then I have spent way too much time on the internet which eventually landed me a job in tech.

Gearhead Wiki started one day when I was thinking to myself (while broke and looking for free repair information on the internet), "Repair manuals and forums both have a huge part to play in the automotive world; and "wiki" style websites are great way to combine many peoples' knowledge into a clear, concise, easy to understand form."

I had 3 problems though...[edit | edit source]

  1. Repair manuals are expensive and you usually only need them for one or two things and then the manual goes on a shelf or in a box. That's just wasteful.
  2. Forums, on the other hand, are not just great, but vital for stirring up new ideas and consulting others on new problems. However, for finding anything specific or something with less than 100 opinions tied to an answer, you are pretty much out of luck.
  3. A Wiki that combined the information you would get from a repair manual and the tips, tricks, and modification info you would get from a forum just wasn't out there.

Thus the first wiki dedicated to all aspects of being a Gearhead was born.

I encourage you to add ANY automotive knowledge they might have. If you don't know where to start, you should sign up and then check out the Quick-Start guide. Then you should be ready to share every bit of Gearhead related knowledge with the world.

If you think this is something that will benefit you and others please help to spread Gearhead Wiki.
